The Edinburgh International Children's Festival is a 9-day celebration of the best of children’s theatre and dance from around the world. Each year it offers innovative family-friendly theatre and dance for young audiences, their teachers, and their families - with high quality, distinctive international work sitting alongside the best of Scottish performance. The performances are diverse, challenging and enthralling. They encourage young people to be critical thinkers with curious minds, whilst making them laugh, gasp or cry.

The festival is full of special moments for families and children, exquisite theatrical moments that encourage young people to aspire beyond their own lives and immediate neighbourhoods, into their potential future selves. The often visually striking productions take place in theatres and community centres across the city, and the festival opens with a day of free-pop-up performances in the National Museum of Scotland.
