Gabrovo is called the Capital of humor and that is why the International Festival of Humor and Satire is the biggest event taking place in the city. You can visit it in May, when the weather in Bulgaria is wonderful, and enjoy a whole week of incredible events and emotions – street magic and art, stand up performances, exhibitions, culinary events, concerts, theaters and many more.

The Carnival in Gabrovo is the culmination of the festival and is held every third Saturday of May. Approximately 3000 people participate in the parade, and the audience exceeds 30,000 - equivalent to half the population of the city. The Carnival is the oldest and most flamboyant in Bulgaria. The people in Gabrovo refer to it as unique because unlike all carnivals in the country and abroad only this one distinguish itself by the political satire and the few meters high figures and models.

In the parade you may see topics of everyday life, social, economic, ecological and any other problems and strangenesses of people all around the world too. You are welcome to participate in the procession if you have good ideas, skillful hands and creative minds. Each year there is a prize for the most interesting carnival pictures that are not part of the main scenario of the procession.
