Caldas Da Rainha , Portugal

F/262 – Festival Internacional de Fotografia is a contemporary photography festival based in Portugal, organised by the non-profit association F/SOS – Fotografia, Solidariedade e Obras Sociais. The festival explores the relationship between image, territory and society, using photography as a tool for critical reflection and social engagement. The 2026 edition focuses on sustainability and circular culture, addressing current environmental and social challenges through artistic practice. The programme brings together emerging and established artists whose work engages with themes such as ecology, water, landscape, resource use and the human impact on the environment.F/262 takes place across multiple locations in the Centro region of Portugal, activating cultural venues, heritage sites and public space. By decentralising its programme, the festival increases access to contemporary photography and fosters connections between artists, local communities and diverse audiences. The festival programme includes exhibitions, site-specific installations and artistic interventions developed in dialogue with the territory. Several projects are created in situ, responding to local contexts and encouraging new readings of place, memory and identity.A central component of this edition is the F/262 Circular Culture Lab, which promotes sustainable practices in cultural production. This includes the reuse of exhibition materials, environmentally responsible design solutions and strategies to reduce waste. The initiative also raises awareness among audiences, encouraging more conscious approaches to consumption and sustainability.Education and participation are key priorities. Through its NextGen programme, the festival engages schools, young artists and local communities in workshops, talks, guided visits and collaborative projects. These activities aim to strengthen visual literacy, critical thinking and active participation in cultural life.F/262 is developed in partnership with municipalities, cultural institutions and local organisations, reinforcing a collaborative and network-based approach. By connecting culture, territory and community, the festival contributes to regional development and social cohesion.Through its programme, F/262 positions photography as a relevant and accessible medium to address contemporary issues, fostering dialogue, inclusion and environmental awareness at both local and European levels.
