The visitors will have an opportunity to see furniture, textiles and objects created by Austrian, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Spanish and Swiss designers.

Design Without Borders exhibition and meeting, is a free independent organisation.

It is the explicit intention of the curators to present the variety and refreshing innovativeness of the area, so in addition to objects created in light of current trends, pieces which reflect individual ways of seeing will also be included. Among objects created by young and middle generation designers there will be numerous works which have won their creators Hungarian and international awards, such as the A' Design Award and Competition, Blick Fang, Czech Grand Design Award, the IF Design Award, the Hungarian Design Award, make me! competition of the Lodz Design Festival and the Red Dot Design Award.

As has been the case in previous years, representatives of other genres closely tied to the material culture will also present their work at the Design Without Borders exhibition. Jewellery designers whose work bears affinities with the vast array of materials on display this year will be given opportunities to showcase their compositions.

The title Design Without Borders reflects both on the increasingly international nature of the circle of exhibitors and the trends and tendencies which are palpable in contemporary design.

Since 2012, MeeD, which is closely tied to madeinhungary and at which Czech, Polish, and Slovak designers present their works, has been organised with the support of the International Visegrad Fund. Innovations in contemporary design, however, can only be analysed in the larger international context, so in 2016 the organisers decided, in addition to presenting works by prominent designers from the region, also to include every year some of the most exciting representatives of another individual country or region in the selection. In 2017, when designers from the Baltic and Scandinavian states were invited designers, in 2018 we invited designers from Austria, Germany, Romania, Slovenia and Switzerland.

Design Without Borders exhibition and meeting, places particular emphasis on dialogue and permeability between the various genres, also strives to foster dialogue among members of different generations, so artists at the beginning of their careers take part alongside designers who have been active for several years in the profession and influential, recognised artists of the older generation.

Design Without Borders represents the tremendous diversity and variety of the genre. The many layers and creative forms of expression of the genre are given space, from the prototypes and “low budget” objects made in small series to mass produced items, i.e. works which even in their form of production are expressive of the economic opportunities in the various participating countries.

Professional expo-day: as usual, the organisers place considerable emphasis on the arrangement of a comprehensive professional expo-day, on which a series of 10-minute-long presentations by the artists and their collaborators will be held, along with lectures on various important international projects.

The series of programs will be further enriched by productions from other fields of the arts, such as a contemporary dance performances, contemporary classical music and jazz concerts.

The organisers of the exhibition, together with journalists and artists participating in the exhibition, will give guided tours on several occasions.
