FemFest

Our organization, BASHART, is a non-profit organisation aiming to unite people through art. FemFest, our pride and joy, is by far our most successful project. It started small and by the time it ended, it had become one of the most significant art events in Albania. We wanted to send a message on the importance of gender equality and spread awareness on domestic violence. Through this festival we were able to intertwine art with crucial social dynamics. Coming from an ex-communist country, we feel it’s deeply essential to be able to advocate for gender equality, women's rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, violence awareness and other social imbalances through something as precious and meaningful as art ; be it music, painting, dancing, drawing or theater. Art is abstract and often open to interpretation, nevertheless our organisation aims to weaponise the transparency of art against the disparity and prejudice our society’s foundations are built upon. Understanding the power of art, BASHART wants to be able to enforce such truthful messages about social injustice by presenting them uniquely in festivals and other artistic projects.
