Phantasy 2024

The seventeenth edition of the Piccolo Opera Festival offers several new features.The opening is set, as per tradition, on June 21st, the European Music Festival day. The closing on July 7th with a Gala combined with the Casanova Prize at Castello di Spessa.The theme of the edition is Phantasy. In music it is essentially a form that arises from improvisation and is characterized by extreme freedom. In general, it is also a stimulus to put the idea at the center of artistic production as per the tradition of the Piccolo Opera Festival proposal. A further novelty is given by the fact that for the first time, in 2024, every single event of the Festival will feature the human voice.Important news also regarding the sections. The OPERA one has interesting proposals: “Le villi” by Puccini, “Il giocatore” by Luigi Cherubini and “Inventing Turandot”, a micro-version of Puccini masterpiece. Two sections have been remodeled to create a better fusion with the territory; They will be called "The song of the hills" and "Serenades in the vineyards".“The song of hills” venues will be characteristic and panoramic places in the Collio – Brda. "Serenades in the vineyards" will offer the opportunity to combine operatic music with the extraordinary winemaking tradition of Collio Brda. A mini section will be dedicated to Gorizia where the Festival follows the trend of the presence of the Bourbon royal family in the two cities. Thanks to Charles X it is possible to connect it with Gioacchino Rossini. The title chosen “Waiting for the king” precisely while waiting for the great opera show that will be staged in 2025 as part of the program of Nova Gorica and Gorizia European Capital of Culture.Finally, the OFF section returns and is much richer with meetings, training shows and film screenings. OFF is the point of contact between the Festival and its audience of the future, of all ages.
