Stour Music

This page contains information about a past festival edition. View the latest edition here.

Set in the heart of the Kent countryside, STOUR MUSIC was founded in 1962 by the renowned countertenor Alfred Deller as a festival of early music. Each year in late June ten concerts take place in the large Pilgrim church of All Saints' Boughton Aluph. In its early years Stour provided the platform for the first concerts given in England by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Concentus Musicus from Vienna, Collegium Aureum from Cologne, and artists such as Gustav Leonhard and Frans Brueggen.
