BRaK - Bratislava book festival

31 May 2024 - 02 Jun 2024
Bratislava, Slovakia

The BRaK - Bratislava Book Festival was established in 2013 with the aim of creating a platform primarily for small, independent book creators and their works. From the beginning, it has included a sales exhibition of books from small and medium-sized publishers. The festival's ambition is to present a credible picture of the book space, with an emphasis on that part of the publishing production not solely driven by the demands and expectations of the consumer market. It focuses on the interest in the current forms, transformations, and functions of the book medium. BRaK is equally a festival for writers, publishers, translators, book designers, illustrators, typographers, and other professions connected with book creation. The international book festival BRaK connects book culture with other art forms and brings a multi-genre program each year within the festival, consisting of discussion panels, author meetings, lectures, creative workshops, film and theater productions, performances, and concerts. BRaK highlights the diversity of the Slovak publishing environment, stimulates innovative book projects and international collaborations, aids the development of cultural infrastructure, and increases sensitivity to the quality of book production. In relation to the Slovak cultural public, the festival also serves as the largest international showcase of literature and book art, based on the principles of originality and uniqueness. The international dimension of the event is a precondition for intensive creative and informational exchange between local and foreign participants.Under its umbrella since 2015, BRaK has conducted non-periodic publishing activities related to the main festival agenda: to promote contemporary book culture through its literary, visual, and material qualities. For more information, visit www.brak.sk
