Festival ORLANDO 2024 - 11th Edition
ORLANDO is an international queer festival of cinema, dance, theater and meetings.
By bringing to Bergamo valuable artistic experiences, the festival transforms the city into a meeting space to overcome stereotypes and broaden the horizon of possibilities. Films, performances, exhibitions and workshops are some elements of the rich program created within a network of relationships, cultural exchanges and national and international partnerships. The project takes its name from Virginia Woolf’s novel and is a concrete example of how differences (on a cultural, gender, geographical origin or affective orientation base) are crucial for the constitution of a plural, alive and in constant transformation cultural identity.
After ten years of activity, the ORLANDO team decided to
take a change, starting with the renewal
of the artistic direction.
There is a desire to embrace transformation
as a value of openness and regeneration of structures,
practices, ways of working, cultural offerings.
The values and
the themes which are the core of ORLANDO’s missiin will remain: the
gender perspective and a queer approach to culture and society,
the focus on marginalized segments of the population, the
multidisciplinarity of languages, the vocation and ability to network
with institutions, cultural enterprises, private partners on a local, national and international level, the promotion of culture as a
fundamental tool to create well-being, empowerment, capacity of
change, and equity.
The
11th edition of the Festival will
also see the introduction of some new features: performances designed
for public spaces, a focus on migration issues, and openness to new
networks and collaborations, especially with the local queer
activism.
ORLANDO Festival 2024 will take place in Bergamo from May 3 to 12, 2024, and will host artists and companies from Italy, United Kingdom and France, as well as a rich film program with international hosts and a schedule of meetings and workshops.
