JEM International Puppet Festival (7th edition)

17 May 2024 - 09 Jun 2024
Ixelles, Belgium

This festival, launched in May 2013, aims to establish an internationally renowned puppet festival in the Brussels-Capital region, and at European level a puppet festival of international renown. Our festival promotes the art of puppetry, its tradition and its modernity, by inviting internationally renowned European theaters as well as emerging young creators. But always questioning the aesthetics of the puppet arts, and of a medium that reinvents itself and proposes new theatrical forms based on forms and techniques that are in keeping with the ambition of the art form and the formal and material multiplicity of a questioning art. And to the delight of a wide audience, families and the curious alike.

Since 2013, and over the first 6 editions editions, we have invited 29 international and national companies for over 95 performances. Each edition sees our festival grow. From2013, with 3 companies, we're looking at 10 companies in 2019, and even more in 2022, in our last edition, 18 companies over the space of 5 weekends for 20 differentdifferent shows, and 38 performances. Many countries have already beeninvited, including the Czech Republic, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Iceland, Finland, Poland, Iran, Slovenia, Slovakia, Netherlands, Ukraine, and Belgium. The 2022 edition also saw the invitationa Ukrainian company from Kiyv , the Company Three with the show "Duckling".

This festival is also an extension of former very important international festivals in the history of European Puppetry managed by the Peruchet theatre.Through international contacts with UNIMA International, the festival stand in the networking of many other important European and worldwide puppet festivals and with proeminent, young and confirmed artists in the field of the puppetry arts.
