15º Montemor-o-Novo Internacional Puppet Festival

Cultural association Alma d’Arame will be hosting the 15th edition of the Montemor-o-Novo International Puppet Festival between 24 May and 4 June 2023.

This festival is dedicated to puppetry and ties in other artistic forms in a multidisciplinary programme that includes puppet shows, theatre, performances, concerts, exhibitions and workshops.

The star of this 15th artistic gathering is the contemporary puppet, bringing its ability to transform visions and responses for today’s world. This is the festival that firmly establishes the puppet's ability to constantly adapt and its ties to the other arts, including theatre, dance, cinema, music and visual arts.

With this in mind, we have created a programme rich in different artistic languages and new approaches. Twenty-two national and international companies will put on 46 sessions for all ages and audiences.

This year we will not only be in several locations around the city (Curvo Semedo Cine-Theatre, Alma Box, Carlista Philharmonic Society, the Urban Park, and the Municipal Market), but will also be extending performances to the Montemor-o-Novo parishes of Cabrela, Foros de Vale Figueira and Escoural (Aldeia da Casa Branca).

This programme embraces Alma d'Arame’s main convictions: the encouragement of critical reflection on the arts and the world, and the fight for an egalitarian and inclusive society that celebrates its diversity. All this against the backdrop of the Alentejo landscape, the symbolic and historical wealth of which, embodied in its architecture and peoples, adds a singular character and sense of belonging to the artistic object.
