From its beginning in 2007, the aim of the Balkan Trafik festival has always been to increase the public understanding of the Balkans by stimulating an informed public debate and to familiarise people in EU member states with the contemporary reality of the Balkan countries. Culture in its broadest sense (mainly through music, dance, cinema and educational workshops) has been the means to pursue these goals. In this framework, each year Balkan Trafik has produced two to three artistic residences, between artists from South East Europe, the Balkan diaspora in Belgium and artists from Western Europe in order to create concerts and productions which have taken place for the first time on one of our festival stages
