Berlin Atonal 2027

Dates TBCBerlin Atonal is an international biennial festival dedicated to experimental music, sonic art, and interdisciplinary performance. Founded in 1982 and relaunched in 2013, Berlin Atonal has become one of Europe’s most distinctive and widely recognised platforms for the presentation of new and boundary-challenging artistic work, with a particular emphasis on contemporary developments in sound, electronic music, and hybrid artistic forms. The biennial presents large-scale commissioned performances, one-off collaborations, installations and site-specific works. It operates outside the usual categories of festival or exhibition, establishing a format that is deliberately indeterminate - a contingent assembly of artistic situations that would not easily find a home elsewhere.The festival is based at Kraftwerk Berlin, a former power plant in central Berlin, which provides a distinctive post-industrial architecture that enables ambitious and spatially expansive productions. The spatial conditions of the building play an important role in the development of many projects, with artists often creating work that directly responds to the scale, acoustics, and material conditions of the site
