BibliOkeanos: Echoes of submerged worlds/ Ecos de mundos sumergidos

Echoes of Submerged Worlds is the maritime edition of the Bienal BiblioGea-BibliOkeanos of Lucky Books, an international, decentralised cultural ecosystem.

Rooted in the philosophy of "glocal" community action (thinking globally, acting locally), our festival approaches literature not as a passive display, but as a vital bridge to reconnect humanity with the natural world and activate community resilience. Operating on an alternating biannual cycle - even years dedicated to terrestrial roots (BiblioGea) and odd years to the depths of the sea (BibliOkeanos) - our festival transforms reading into an active, shared, and transformative experience.  

The 2027 edition explores the literary and scientific depths of the oceans through ten visually striking narrative chapters. Conceived as both an illustrated graphic narrative and an itinerant visual exhibition, BibliOkeanos 2027 fuses comparative literature, graphic storytelling, travel journals, and environmental science. Each chapter is built upon public domain works, spanning timeless mythologies, classical adventures, and Hispanic coastal heritage, from Plato’s Critias (Atlantis) and Bécquer’s maritime legends, to Blasco Ibáñez’s Mare Nostrum and regional coastal chronicles.

Crucially, the edition incorporates "La Mirada Verde" (The Green Gaze), a dedicated chapter highlighting scientific marine discoveries - such as the 1872-1876 HMS Challenger expedition led by Charles Wyville Thomson - to foster marine biodiversity awareness, abyssal ocean literacy, and ecosystem protection.   

Our festival operates through an innovative, carbon-neutral hybrid model. Rather than shipping heavy physical exhibits, we deliver high-resolution "Biennial content kits" and open-access licenses to rural libraries, cultural centres, and social venues across regional networks. This model empowers local librarians, youth groups, and senior centres to act as autonomous festival nodes. 

Our intergenerational programming ranges from digital Kamishibai storytelling for children and memory workshops in eldercare facilities to multilingual literary dialogues (in Spanish, Basque, Galician, French and English) and slow-reading debate panels.  

Framed within the ethos of Vital Awakening literature (Humanismo estético), BibliOkeanos rejects passive environmental writing in favour of direct civic engagement. By combining graphic art, public lectures, community workshops, and open digital hubs, the festival offers a poetic and ethical antidote to digital overload, inviting global audiences to listen to the echoes of our submerged worlds and protect our shared oceanic home.
