Bratislava in Movement 2026

Bratislava in Movement Festival is the leading international festival of contemporary dance in Slovakia, presenting outstanding works by established and emerging artists from across Europe and beyond. Since its foundation in 1997, the festival has been a vital platform for contemporary dance and a key event shaping the Slovak dance scene. Over the years, it has hosted more than 240 artists and companies from over 28 countries, bringing diverse artistic perspectives to Bratislava and encouraging exchange between Slovak and international creators.The festival offers audiences a curated selection of performances by renowned choreographers as well as innovative younger voices, spanning different styles, aesthetics, and generations. Each year, Bratislava in Movement combines a strong international programme with activities that nurture the local scene — workshops, artist talks, film screenings, lectures, and encounters with the creators. In doing so, it connects audiences with the creative processes behind the performances and stimulates discussion about the role of dance and movement in contemporary society.The 30th edition of the festival will take place from 5 to 26 October 2026 in several venues across Bratislava, including the Slovak National Theatre, A4 – Space for Contemporary Culture, and the Academy of Performing Arts. The programme will once again highlight the diversity and vitality of contemporary dance, exploring new forms of expression and interdisciplinary approaches that bridge choreography, performance, visual art, and digital media.As a long-term member of the Aerowaves network, Bratislava in Movement promotes the mobility of artists and contributes to the visibility of emerging European choreographers. Through international collaborations and co-productions, the festival encourages the circulation of artistic works, while also supporting Slovak artists in presenting their creations abroad.Beyond its artistic mission, Bratislava in Movement plays an important educational and social role. It develops the dance audience through public discussions, reflection, and accessibility initiatives, and offers professional development opportunities for dancers, students, and teachers. The festival’s consistent commitment to quality programming, international cooperation, and audience engagement has made it a respected and influential event in the European contemporary dance landscape.
