Bergen in Norway - truly a festival city
Bergen (Norway)
Bergen is Norway's 2nd biggest city, located between 7 mountains and the sea. The people here are loud, proud and always up for a festival!
In Bergen there are around 60 festivals and other big concerts year-round. Some examples include the internationally reclaimed metal festival Beyond the Gates, the cozy neighbourhood festival Dragefjellet minifestival, Borealis - a festival for experimental music and Vill Vill Vest (Wild Wild West), a showcase music festival for up-and-coming, local artists. The city even hosts its own climate festival, Varmere Våtere Villere (Warmer Wetter Wilder).
For many locals and visitors, the highlight of the year is Bergenfest. Bergenfest is Western Norway's largest music festival that takes place in beautiful surroundings at Bergenhus Fortress in the city center. During a 4-5 day period in mid-June each year, Bergenfest offers the very best of international and Norwegian artists in a delightful mixture of genres within pop, rock, rap and more.
another huge happening is The Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen). The festival presents art in all its guises: music, theatre, dance, opera and visual art, and has turned the city upside down every may since its establishment in 1953. The Bergen International Festival is the largest of its kind in the Nordic countries, and it is the longest standing and the foremost music and theatre festival in Norway.
