28 Aug 2026 - 30 Aug 2026
Timișoara, Romania

CODRU Festival is a multidisciplinary cultural and environmental festival set in the Green Forest near Timișoara, Romania. What began as a local cultural initiative has grown into one of the country's most relevant movements combining music, community involvement and consistent ecological action. Every edition brings audiences, volunteers, artists and local partners together in a natural, immersive setting where cultural expression and environmental responsibility coexist. The festival features a diverse programme across multiple stages, including live concerts, electronic and experimental music, visual arts, installations, workshops, performances for families and nature-based activities. Artists from Romania and abroad create site-specific works that integrate harmoniously with the forest, transforming the environment into a living cultural space.A defining element of CODRU is its long-term ecological mission. The festival coordinates annual large-scale planting events in the Codru and Ianova areas, community-based restoration activities and continuous green education programmes. To date, the CODRU community has planted over 70.000 trees, contributing directly to the regeneration of local ecosystems. Each year, thousands of volunteers, families, artists and supporters participate in planting days that combine ecological impact with music, workshops, local food and cultural activities. The festival also runs an educational programme delivered in schools, offering children practical workshops on planting, environmental care and the importance of forests. These sessions introduce students to hands-on ecological learning, interactive demonstrations and planting activities designed to cultivate responsibility and a deeper connection with nature. The programme expands annually, preparing new generations to take part in CODRU’s reforestation efforts.CODRU Festival is built on strong collaborations with local authorities, academic partners, NGOs and regional cultural organisations. Each edition includes community markets, local gastronomy, workshops for all ages, relaxation areas and concerts that reflect both the diversity and creativity of the region. The festival’s inclusive spirit brings together families, young audiences, artists, educators, volunteers and local communities in an environment shaped by shared values and collective action.Often recognised as one of the most impactful eco-cultural projects in Romania, CODRU stands out through its long-term commitment to integrating culture with environmental regeneration. Each edition strengthens the relationship between people and the forest, building a sustainable community that grows year by year.CODRU Festival has been twice shortlisted in the TOP 10 at the European Festival Awards, in the category Best Medium-Sized Festival in Europe, a recognition that highlights both the quality of its programming and the strength of its community-driven mission. These nominations underline CODRU’s growing role within the European cultural landscape and its unique contribution to connecting audiences with nature through culture.
