Construction - festival of contemporary art and music in urban space

07 Jun 2019 - 09 Jun 2019
Dnipro, Ukraine

Construction festival was created by a group of friends 5 years ago in the mecca of industrialism and rocket building. Guided by the idea of the decentralization of cultural processes and overcoming the humanitarian crisis; motivated by the events in the social, economical, and political fields of Ukraine, the organizers came to the conclusion that now is the best time for cultural projects in Dnipro. Dnipro is an ideal city for contemporary art and music. It is a cultural desert with an industrial, post-soviet spirit, unfinished buildings, abandoned spaces and a symptoms of a «closed city». The festival combines topics of social and cultural development, and creative needs of people living in post-industrial and post-soviet cities using technologies, digital art and social critical art as a tools

During the last 5 festivals, 50 different locations of Dnipro were used: the Southern railway station, Planetarium, Aquarium, Botanical Garden, The Palace of Organ and Chamber Music, Dnipro Philharmonic, The Palace of Illich, Volodarsky Factory, the science library of DNU and a lot of others. More than 200 participants from Ukraine, EU countries, USA, and Japan presented their performances, art installations, and musical projects. They shared their experiences and inspired us through their successful cultural and educational practices.
