Drama Queer 2026
Drama Queer 2026: Indelible (Nezmazateľní)Drama Queer is Bratislava’s annual queer theatre festival—an essential space for LGBTI+ voices in Slovakia. Serving as both a cultural refuge and a bold artistic platform, the festival presents a carefully curated selection of Slovak and international performances that span theatre, drag, cabaret, and performance art. Beyond the stage, it stands as an act of resistance, empathy, and solidarity. The 2026 edition, “Nezmazateľní” (Indelible), responds to the growing tides of intolerance, censorship, and the systematic erasure of queer lives from public and cultural memory. This year’s theme is not a mere artistic concept—it is a statement. A declaration that our presence, our art, our stories, and our joy cannot be erased. We are indelible.Reflecting this spirit, the festival plans to host a powerful lineup of European productions that challenge silence and celebrate authenticity. Among the highlights, we are planning to present Androgynous by the Berlin-based Gorki Theater, a landmark work by acclaimed Argentine director and writer Lola Arias exploring the fluid boundaries of identity beyond the binary. From Prague, Mestské divadlá pražské are expected to bring the Slovak premiere of How to Become Another (Jak se stát jiným), a provocative adaptation of Édouard Louis’s novel directed by the emerging Slovak talent David Paška. The Prague-based Divadlo Letí is set to introduce the award-winning play Heroes by Anna Saavedra, a razor-sharp and humorous reflection on what it means to be a hero today. We also plan to collaborate with Sarajevski ratni teatar SARTR, a theatre born from wartime cultural resistance, to present their powerful production PODROOM by Armin Behrem. Completing the international selection, the intimate solo piece T-Boy on Grindr will explore the intersections of desire, digital identity, and the politics of the body.As a vital platform for new Slovak queer writing, Drama Queer 2026 will also feature the world premiere of the new Slovak lesbian play The Little Well of Loneliness or You Rascal (studnička osamenia alebo Ty nemrava), expanding the canon of Slovak queer theatre and offering a deeply personal reflection on love, shame, and resilience.More than a festival, Drama Queer 2026 is a collective act of endurance and imagination. Alongside the main performances, it offers a vibrant accompanying program of discussions, queer stand-up, slam poetry, and therapeutic theatre workshops—creating a safe, affirming space for dialogue and healing.Drama Queer 2026: Indelible is a celebration of art that resists oblivion.A testament to resilience, visibility, and the right to exist—on stage and beyond.
