EchoStone Festival

06 Aug 2026 - 09 Aug 2026
Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina

EchoStone Festival is a cultural and musical platform created in Trebinje to bring electronic music into dialogue with the city’s historic setting, stone squares, ancient walls and Mediterranean identity. The festival was launched by the Centre for the Development of Herzegovina, a Trebinje-based non-governmental organisation working in sustainable development, culture, tourism, digital transformation and community empowerment. EchoStone was conceived not simply as a series of evening performances, but as a project designed to create new cultural value, engage contemporary audiences and position Trebinje as a creative Mediterranean destination. The inaugural festival took place from 14 to 16 August 2025 in Trebinje’s Old Town. Its multi-venue format demonstrated that the city’s historic heart could provide a compelling stage for contemporary electronic music. Performances by local and international DJs and producers attracted more than 3,000 visitors, confirming that Trebinje has a strong audience for this kind of cultural programme. The festival also opened up a new way of presenting the city: not only as a place rich in cultural heritage, but as one where a new urban culture is taking shape. The second edition of EchoStone Festival will unfold as part of a festival week running from 3 to 9 August 2026, with the main music programme scheduled for 6–8 August. The three festival nights will take place at three Old Town venues: Bina Bedem – Old Wall Stage, Bina Ljetno kino – Summer Cinema Stage and Bina Trg Travunije – Travunija Square Stage. Each location has its own distinctive atmosphere, yet together they create a unified experience in which stone, architecture and sound play equally important roles. This identity is captured in the festival’s messages: “Three Nights of Sound in Stone”, “Where Stone and Sound Meet” and “Every Echo Begins Somewhere. Ours Begins in Stone.” The 2026 programme brings a distinctly international dimension to the festival. The line-up features Wild Dark, Rob Keith, Natali Satin, Marco Norma, Mick Floyd and Francesco Theodoli from the United States, alongside Trebinje’s own Royal Wolf. Their careers and musical styles connect the American, European, regional and local electronic music scenes. The relationship between Trebinje, Detroit and Chicago carries particular symbolic weight: both American cities played a major role in the development of electronic music and techno culture, while also maintaining strong ties with communities of Herzegovinian origin. In this way, the festival tells a story of sound travelling across the ocean and stone preserving memory. A key part of the project is EchoStone DJ Lab, an educational programme founded on the belief that Trebinje should not only host visiting artists, but also nurture a new generation of DJs and creative professionals. Through workshops, mentoring and hands-on practice, young people are introduced to DJing, music production and digital performance culture. The first programme cycle trained eleven new DJs, with the most promising participants given the opportunity to perform as part of the festival programme. EchoStone therefore extends well beyond the boundaries of a conventional music event, becoming a space for learning, connection and professional development. One of EchoStone’s greatest strengths lies in the way it brings together culture, tourism, technology and youth engagement. The festival helps extend the tourist season, attract new audiences and promote Trebinje both regionally and internationally. At the same time, it preserves the city’s authenticity by treating its historic heritage not as a decorative backdrop, but as an integral part of the festival’s identity. The walls, squares and narrow streets of the Old Town become part of the music, while the city itself ceases to be merely the host and becomes an active participant in the event. EchoStone Festival is therefore far more than a three-day music programme.
