EcoFrames International Environmental Film Festival is a pioneering cultural initiative in Greece that merges cinema, environmental activism, and community engagement. Through the innovative Solar Cinema Project, the festival brings films directly to communities, transforming public spaces into open-air cinemas powered entirely by solar energy.The festival curates a diverse selection of short and feature-length documentaries and fiction films that explore the intricate relationship between humanity and nature. Topics include climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, sustainable living, renewable energy, conservation, environmental justice, wildlife and ecosystems, environmental activism, and human impact on the environment . All screenings are free and open to the public, aiming to challenge perspectives, deepen understanding, and empower audiences to act.EcoFrames utilizes the Solar Cinema Van, a member of the Solar World Cinema network, to bring environmental films directly to communities. This approach transforms public squares, natural landscapes, forests, and beaches into captivating, open-air cinematic venues, fostering a profound connection with nature and broadening access for diverse audiences.Accessibility is a core value at EcoFrames. All films are adapted for individuals with disabilities, featuring closed captions, audio descriptions, and, where appropriate, simplified language versions with dubbing. The festival strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone can engage with these powerful stories.The inaugural event of EcoFrames will take place on June 8th, 2025, at the Kalamata Creative Documentary Center. The evening will commence with a press conference, followed by the official announcement of the festival's program, showcasing a curated selection of films that delve into pressing environmental issues. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with filmmakers, environmental activists, and community leaders, fostering a dialogue on sustainability and ecological awareness.Following the launch in Kalamata, EcoFrames will embark on a tour across Western Mani, bringing environmental films directly to various communities. This initiative aims to transform public spaces and natural landscapes into immersive cinematic venues, fostering a deeper connection between audiences and the environment. The tour will culminate in Athens, continuing the tradition established over the past three years of engaging diverse audiences across Greece.EcoFrames also extends its impact beyond the festival through year-round engagement via touring film series, educational programs, and digital platforms.
