Founded in 2012, Espontâneo is Portugal's premier festival dedicated exclusively to the art of improvisation. Over the course of 14 editions, the festival has become a global meeting point, hosting over a hundred artists from across every continent. Its primary mission is the promotion of improvisational theatre through diverse artistic approaches and its vital role in education and artistic training.As one of Europe's most prestigious improv festivals, Espontâneo stands out as the only event of its kind featuring three official languages: Portuguese, Spanish, and English. This trilingual identity has fostered a robust international network, leading to the successful expansion of the brand. Notable milestones include the debut of the Caribbean International Improvisation Festival (Dominican Republic, 2022) and Espontâneo Colombia (Bogotá, 2023), in partnership with TIMBO.Today, Espontâneo remains a global benchmark in the field. It continues to evolve, constantly seeking to surprise its audience while solidifying its identity as a space where creativity, spontaneity, and world-class talent converge.
