Festival Mediterraneo di Musica Sacra - II edizione

10 May 2026 - 17 May 2026
Catania, Italy

There is an invisible thread that unites the shores of the Mediterranean, a bridge made of sounds, prayers, and hopes that transcends the boundaries of time and space. For one week, Catania once again becomes the cradle of this age-old dialogue with the second edition of the Mediterranean Festival of Sacred Music. This year, our journey follows the paths of Justice and Peace, seeking in the sacred not only an artistic expression, but a concrete path to reconciliation in a time scarred by conflict.A mosaic of voices and traditions Let yourself be carried away by the Syriac polyphonies of Mirna Kassis and the ancient chants resounding in Aramaic, or by the Byzantine liturgical musical tradition of the Arbëreshë choir of Palazzo Adriano. Listen to the encounter between Italian-Greek tradition and the contemporary, where Byzantine chant between Calabria and Sicily finds new life, intertwining with the harmonies of the Scontrino Orchestra and the Cantoria di Giubiasco.Beyond Sound: Memory and Matter The sacred also dwells in silence and matter. You will find it in the Opera dei Pupi theater, in the gazes captured by the photographs of the Feast of Saint Agatha, and, above all, in the weathered wood of the migrants’ boats. That wood, which has crossed the abyss, is now being turned into musical instruments thanks to social instrument-making, transforming pain into a melody of rebirth. An Invitation to Connect The Festival is not just about listening, but about participation. Through workshops dedicated to Syriac and Renaissance chant, as well as the lecture on the sacredness of bread in Sicily, everyone can become part of this laboratory of ideas. It is an invitation to open up to others, to rediscover Catania as a vibrant hub where peoples and languages complement one another.Come discover how sacred music can become an instrument of peace. Because where words fall silent, the transcultural sonic experience of spirituality continues to narrate our shared humanity.
