FESTIVAL PROXIMAMENTE
PROXIMAMENTE is a platform and biennial festival for Latin American arts in connection with the European region and audiences. In 2019, it was born out of a gathering of multiple institutions and cultural workers from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Chile, in dialogue with KVS. As a network, we found a common ground for a horizontal model to work together as a programming cooperative. This means, first of all, the partner countries and organisations collaborate as a ‘diversity of curatorial voices’: they share artistic proposals amongst each other. Creations or works in progress that they consider important to highlight within the performing arts in the Latin American region nowadays. As a result, PROXIMAMENTE Festival was created: a brand new event model in which artists, curators and presenters are confronted with a non-vertical system of exhibition vs. reception. Since 2021, we have incorporated an artistic coordination model focused on developing a closer dialogue with the artists involved in the platform, and we have developed a more dynamic and solid presentation structure. This festival edition was also made possible thanks to the network of new European partners such as Kaaitheater, Instituto Cervantes, VIERNULVIER, Mestizo Arts platform, Workspace Brussels, CASA festival London, Cadiz Iberoamerican Theatre Festival, ... From 2022 on, we started welcoming new countries and partners, such as: EU-LAC Foundation, Bienal Internacional de danza de Cali (Colombia), UNAM festival (Mexico), La Parisina (Argentina), Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral (Chile), Instruments inventors (The Netherlands), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), WIELS (Brussels), and INTERACTIONES (Italy). As a platform, we address the needs of the Latin American arts in a complex local and global context, by supporting artists, cultural workers and audiences. As well as taking into account the understanding of the territorial concept of "Latin America" as a post-colonial outcome, and therefore of its geopolitical borders, and the consideration of its cultural production as "Latin American" as a result of certain dynamics and approaches.Próximamente's next edition will take place in November 2026.
