Freedom Festival 2027

Freedom Festival Arts Trust (FFAT) is a Hull-based charity dedicated to inspiring and uniting communities through the transformative power of arts, culture, and heritage. Rooted in Hull’s proud history of freedom, reform, and social justice, FFAT delivers world-class, free-to-access cultural and heritage experiences that celebrate creativity, inclusion, and the city’s independent spirit - reaching over 60,000 people each year across Hull, the East Riding, and beyond.

Freedom Festival is Hull’s flagship celebration, bringing high-quality national and international performances and creative participatory interventions that animate the city, strengthen community pride, encourage dialogue and support the local economy.

We believe that public space is one of the most powerful places for cultural exchange. Much of our work takes place beyond traditional arts venues, in streets, parks, civic buildings and community spaces, ensuring that culture is visible, accessible and part of everyday life. Through this approach, we remove barriers to engagement and create opportunities for people who may not otherwise participate in cultural activity. We champion artists who are curious, ambitious and socially engaged, supporting the creation of work that provokes conversation, encourages reflection and offers new perspectives on the world around us.
