It represents a symbol of artistic dedication and culturaldialogue. With its special format – monodrama – the festival highlights thepower of individual performance and the intimacy of the stage as a means ofcultural and human transformation. Through its minimalist stage design and thefocus on the actor as the central figure, monodrama enables deep introspectioninto characters and situations, allowing the audience to become part of anintense emotional and intellectual exchange.The festival is a member of the “One ManShow” network under the auspices of UNESCO, significantly increasing itsinternational visibility and prestige. Membership in this network not onlyaffirms the Macedonian cultural sector but also positions Bitola as animportant cultural center in Europe, promoting cultural dialogue andinternational cooperation.
The festival was founded in 1999 as aninitiative of the Public Institution Center for Culture – Bitola, with theclear goal of creating a platform for the presentation of individual theatricalperformances by domestic and international actors. From its first edition, thefestival proved to be a bridge between the local scene and the internationalartistic community, allowing for the presentation of various styles andinterpretations of monodrama.Over the past 26 years, the festival hashosted numerous distinguished actors and directors from Europe, Asia, America,and Africa. Among them are renowned artists whose performances have broughtinternational artistic standards and enriched the Macedonian theater scene.Every year, the festival evolves,embracing new concepts, techniques, and themes, including contemporary socialissues, personal dramatic studies, historical narratives, and experimentalstage forms. This continuous development makes the festival dynamic andinnovative, always in step with global trends in monodrama.
