International Performing Arts Festival, Babel XII

07 Jun 2024 - 16 Jun 2024
Târgoviște, Romania

In 2024, we plan to center on an ardent theme: Connections. Nowadays, we are connected in so many ways with the help of the technology. What about the inner, invisible connections that art is based on? We plan to explore these two intertwined dimensions, through the invited performances, exhibitions and discussions.

A white sheet of paper. A blank stare. A dreamless sleep. Three situations devoid of connections, in an inert state synonymous with emptiness. But the times we live in are oversaturated with all kinds of connections, from the terrestrial, naval, and air traffic or the cable, fiber optic, and electromagnetic waves to the social networks. There are emotional and sentimental connections, and each one of them brings their own nuances. All the types of connections listed so far, and many more which are not listed here, actually arise from the multitude of interconnected brains that lived, are still living, and will ever live on Earth. A true Babel tower of connections! We are all interconnected and most of the time we feel that we can meet our ancestors and their lost civilizations, through the architecture and the works of art they have left behind. The theater represents such a meeting point for a great variety of connections. It can gather unheard-of worlds around a story. These universes open up for a while, so that, based on thoughts, which are the strongest connections there are, we may visit them, as if in a virtual museum.
