Jazzinty Festival 2027

The Jazzinty International Workshop and Festival is one of Slovenia’s most important international music events. Jazzinty is an intensive, week-long music academy open to anyone interested in improvisation and jazz. Basic instrumental proficiency is required, but previous experience or knowledge of jazz is not necessary. The workshop welcomes up to 100 participants from across Europe, the United States, Indonesia, Korea and various African countries. The programme is led by carefully selected international mentors: experienced educators and active professional musicians with recognised expertise in jazz. Throughout the week, participants follow a structured educational programme tailored to different levels, from basic to advanced and professional, with an emphasis on individual guidance and the development of personal musical expression. International combo ensembles are an integral part of the workshop, giving participants opportunities to collaborate and perform with peers from around the world. Jazzinty also encourages informal interaction between mentors, participants and audiences, creating a welcoming environment for exchanging ideas and building connections that can lead to future musical projects and collaborations. For more than twenty-five years, Jazzinty has been a central platform for jazz education in Slovenia and beyond. More than 1,300 participants and over 275 guest musicians from around the world have taken part in the workshop. Activities are primarily based at the Marjan Kozina Music School in Novo mesto, while concerts, jam sessions and informal gatherings take place at the LokalPatriot café and concert hall, as well as other venues throughout the old town centre. Running from Monday to Saturday, the programme includes combo rehearsals, lectures, mentor-led instrumental sessions, evening concerts and late-night jam sessions. Mentors work with the combos and often introduce their original compositions, giving participants the opportunity to explore new music. Evening highlights include the Jazzinty final concert and performances by winners of the Jazzon Composer Award, which supports emerging Slovenian composers.

Jazzon Composer Award:  In 2022, Jazzinty revived the Jazzon Composer Award, which previously ran from 2003 to 2016 and recognised 13 young Slovenian composers who are now leading figures on the Slovenian jazz scene. The award supports the creativity of young Slovenian musicians by providing financial, promotional, technical and organisational support for the winning composition and its composer.
