Kosovo Theatre Showcase 2026

06 Nov 2026 - 08 Nov 2026
Prizren, Kosovo

The Kosovo Theatre Showcase returns to Prizren, Kosovo, from 6 - 8 November 2026, with a special edition that builds on its tradition as an important international platform for contemporary theatre while opening a new chapter in its development. Bringing together theatre productions from Kosovo and the wider region with an international theatre conference, this three-day edition will create a space for artistic exchange, critical reflection, and dialogue across borders. It will bring together theatre makers, playwrights, directors, critics, curators, and cultural professionals to explore how theatre engages with the political, social, and cultural realities of our time.

The central theme of this year's edition is [DE]CONTAMINATING THE TRUTH: Can Theatre Reconcile the Contradictions Between Truths? If Yes, Then at What Cost? At a time when truth is increasingly contested, manipulated, and fragmented, the conference will examine the role of theatre in confronting competing narratives, challenging established perspectives, and making space for experiences and voices that are often overlooked or excluded. Through more than six panel discussions, the programme will address the relationship between art, politics, memory, identity, power, and representation, asking whether theatre can bridge conflicting realities without simplifying their contradictions. The artistic programme will feature three productions that engage with different histories, identities, and contemporary realities: Unrecognised, directed by Data Tavadze (Georgia); Kosovo Trilogy in Two Parts, directed by Blerta Neziraj (Kosovo); and They Are All Gone, directed by Andrej Nosov (Serbia). The conference will bring together an international group of theatre practitioners and thinkers, including Mark Ravenhill (UK), Sebastian Nübling (Germany), Mattias Andersson (Sweden), Oliver Frljić (Germany), Gianina Cărbunariu (Romania), Data Tavadze (Georgia), Natasha Tripney (UK), and Susanne Kennedy (Germany), alongside additional speakers to be announced. Rooted in Kosovo's vibrant independent theatre scene and its experience of navigating contested histories, identities, and narratives, the Showcase seeks to connect local artistic practices with wider international debates. It aims not only to present outstanding theatre work but also to encourage meaningful encounters between different artistic approaches, perspectives, and experiences.

Through performances, discussions, and international exchange, Kosovo Theatre Showcase 2026 invites participants to consider theatre as a space where contradictions can be confronted, uncomfortable questions can be raised, and new ways of understanding one another can emerge.
