Live Art for Kids
Live Art for Children 2026 has the theme of the sociopolitical challenges, that Aarhus municipality faces. These socalled "wild" problems are interconnected and must be solved in cooperation with the citizens. They concern immigration, elderly, workforce, climate and youth. The five problems are addressed with two new international art projects every day, developed together with the audience. The festival takes place at the culture house DOKK1 during the annual Aarhus Festival Week.
Artists and final programme to be announced in August 2026.
“Children are natural explorers of the everyday, and that is what live art does too (…) live art initiatives that involve children as co-creators don’t just educate kids, but treat them as co-researchers with as much – perhaps more – to contribute as the adults.” (Lyn Gardner, The Guardian).
Live art, presented by the artists themselves, engages the children directly in projects and investigations of the world. Children are born explorers, questioning and investigating everything from the laws of nature to moral codes. Many artists in the live art for kids festivals seem to identify with this, and create works that invite children to challenge and change real structures and relationships under the pretext of play.
