FIMM 2027

The Marvão International Music Festival (FIMM) returns for its 13th edition from 23 July to 1 August 2027, bringing ten days of classical music to the extraordinary natural and historical setting of the medieval town of Marvão, Portugal. Perched on a mountaintop close to the Spanish border, Marvão offers a stage like no other: open-air concerts against panoramic views, centuries-old churches transformed into intimate recital halls, and remarkable venues such as the Roman Ruins of Ammaia and the Castle of Marvão.

The 2027 Edition

The 2027 edition is expected to welcome around 15,000 visitors and present more than 40 concerts, bringing together internationally acclaimed orchestras, ensembles and soloists with a new generation of musicians. Artists already announced include Aaron Pilsan, Aurélien Pascal, Juliane Banse, Katharina Konradi, Lena Neudauer, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, Markus Stockhausen, Sitkovetsky Trio, Kuss Quartet, Eliot Quartett, Coro Ricercare, Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa, Orquesta de Extremadura and Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, among many others.

From Symphonic Music to Intimate Recitals

Across ten days, the programme embraces a broad repertoire, from major symphonic and chamber works to vocal and choral music, recitals and contemporary creations. FIMM combines internationally recognised artists with emerging talent, bringing different generations of musicians together and creating space for both established repertoire and less familiar discoveries.

An Open and Accessible Festival

Accessibility and exchange are an essential part of FIMM. Around 25% of events are offered free of charge, helping make the programme accessible to a broad audience. Educational projects, masterclasses and community initiatives further strengthen the connection between artists, audiences and the local community, while supporting young musicians and encouraging exchange between generations.

More Than a Concert Destination

FIMM is deeply connected to the place in which it takes place. Its position at the meeting point of Portugal and Spain gives the festival a distinctly cross-border character. Concerts become part of a wider experience shaped by Marvão’s medieval architecture, the surrounding landscape, gastronomy, local wines and the hospitality of the Alentejo and Extremadura regions. Partnerships with local producers, institutions and communities allow visitors to experience not only the festival programme but also the cultural and natural heritage of the region.

An International Meeting Point

Over the years, FIMM has developed into an international meeting point for musicians and music lovers, attracting audiences from more than 30 countries. At the same time, it has retained the intimacy and sense of community that come from bringing artists and audiences together for ten days in and around a small historic town.

This combination of ambitious international programming, exceptional concert settings, accessibility and close interaction between musicians and audiences has become one of FIMM’s defining characteristics.

The Marvão International Music Festival is organised by Associação Marvão Music, under the artistic direction of Christoph Poppen and Juliane Banse, together with Managing Director Daniel Boto, and supported by a broad network of international, national and regional partners.
