MOTELX - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival
MOTELX - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival, a member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF), aims to stimulate the production of genre films, hosting two award competitions exclusively for Portuguese and European works. While also screening the best of horror produced worldwide, it rediscovers lost gems of Portugal’s cinema not only through retrospectives and a carefully curated programme but also with the launching of "Lost Room - The Filmes of Portuguese Horror (1911-2006)", a book edited with MOTELX's stamp which goes through the historic and iconic films programmed in this section throughout the years.
MOTELX counts with 3 Warm Up days, with a celebration of the 100th anniversary of F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu with a performance by theatre company Primeiros Sintomas, and the birth of Portuguese horror with a cine-performance in collaboration with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra.
The Festival contributes yearly to educating younger audiences and the general public with selected retrospectives, workshops and masterclasses related to the genre or film production in general. In 2022, there was also a space dedicated to local DJs at the MOTELX Lounge where, every day, a different DJ took the reigns, contributing to the festival's inviting ambience.
