New Music Festival Luksfery
Luksfery New Music Festival is an independent music festival held in Gdynia. We present contemporary music projects distinguished by an experimental-at times radical-approach, exploring the possibilities of the medium and crossing genre boundaries. The first edition in 2024 featured seven concerts, including performances by the group Księżyc, Raphael Rogiński, Albert Karch, and Oskar Tomala. The festival’s name is inspired by the modernist façade of the YMCA building in Gdynia, colloquially known as “IMKA,” whose characteristic glass blocks are called luksfery. Our initiative springs from a fascination with IMKA’s extraordinary gymnasium. A place that may seem very ordinary-a site for sports classes-offers remarkable acoustic conditions: concrete walls and a height of over seven meters produce a five-second reverberation and, thanks to its subtle modernism, striking visual qualities as well. The festival program is shaped in accordance with the character of this space. We look for flowing, open sonorities and works that enable a synthesis of music and architecture, disciplines that may seem distinct. Festival participants experience them directly, becoming mediators of this dialogue.
