NFGreen festival

01 Jul 2027 - 05 Jul 2027
Tomášikovo, Slovakia

NFGreen is an independent multidisciplinary cultural festival taking place every summer in southern Slovakia, in the culturally diverse Žitný ostrov (Rye Island) region. Organised by the non-profit cultural association NFG from Dunajská Streda, the festival brings together contemporary music, film, theatre, visual arts, discussions, workshops and community activities in a unique lakeside setting surrounded by nature.

NFGreen was created as an alternative to large-scale commercial festivals, with the aim of creating a space where contemporary culture, environmental awareness and community can naturally meet. Instead of a conventional festival venue, the event takes place by a lake, combining a diverse cultural programme with camping, outdoor activities and a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors are encouraged to stay for several days, discover different forms of culture and become part of a temporary creative community.

Music is at the heart of NFGreen. The festival focuses on independent, alternative and contemporary artists, with particular attention to emerging and less commercially oriented projects. Its programme crosses genre boundaries, ranging from alternative rock, indie and electronic music to jazz, experimental projects, singer-songwriters and other contemporary forms. NFGreen provides a platform for both established and emerging artists from Slovakia, Hungary and the wider Central European region, creating opportunities for artistic exchange and new connections. The festival goes beyond music. Film screenings, theatre performances, exhibitions, talks, workshops and other participatory activities form an integral part of the programme. The organisers aim to create opportunities for audiences to actively engage with culture, meet artists and exchange ideas. Independent and contemporary projects addressing social, cultural and environmental topics are particularly welcome.

The natural setting is an essential part of the NFGreen experience. The lake, surrounding greenery and campsite are not simply a backdrop to the programme but an integral part of the festival concept. Visitors can move freely between concerts, film screenings, workshops, the campsite and the lake, creating a strong connection between cultural experiences and outdoor life. This setting also contributes to the festival's intimate, informal and community-oriented atmosphere. Environmental responsibility is one of NFGreen's defining values. The festival actively seeks practical ways to reduce its environmental impact and avoid unnecessary waste. Meat-free food options are an important part of the concept, while visitors are encouraged to bring their own reusable plates, cups and cutlery. Camping is included in multi-day admission, and cycling is encouraged through discounted tickets for visitors arriving by bicycle. The organisers continuously explore further ways of reducing disposable materials and making the festival more sustainable.

NFGreen deliberately remains small in scale, with an audience of approximately 400 visitors per day. This allows the festival to preserve a strong sense of intimacy and direct interaction between artists, audiences and organisers. There is no rigid separation between performers and visitors: people meet at concerts, by the lake, at the campsite. These informal encounters and spontaneous connections are an important part of the festival experience. The festival is also rooted in the unique cultural character of southern Slovakia, a region where Slovak and Hungarian cultural identities coexist. NFGreen embraces this diversity and uses culture as a space for dialogue and exchange. The programme connects local audiences with artists from Slovakia and Hungary while also opening the region to cultural projects from neighbouring countries. In this way, NFGreen acts as a small but active meeting point within the Central European independent cultural scene.
