XIХ International Jazz Festival “Odessa JazzFest”

The Odessa jazz festival is an annual festival held in September in Odessa, Ukraine. It was founded in 2001 as the International jazz festival “Jazz Carnaval in Odessa”. In 2011 the festival underwent re-branding and was renamed in Odessa JazzFest. Since the first year of its existence the festival has become a traditional bright and festive event in the cultural life of Odessa and is considered one of the most prominent and important jazz festivals in Ukraine.

The Odessa JazzFest is a three days jazz festival. The main venue is a theater where 3-4 concerts of foreign and Ukrainian bands are held every day. The Gala Opening of the festival is held in the City Garden. Around 4000 people attend this big event for free. During the festival days club concerts and jam sessions are held.

The festival is supported by the municipal and regional authorities (the City Council and the State Regional Administration), embassies and cultural foundations such as the US Embassy in Kiev, the Embassy of Lithuania in Kiev, the Embassy of Norway in Kiev, the Odessa affiliate of Hellenic Foundation for Culture, French Cultural Center in Kiev, Austrian Cultural Forum in Kiev, “Bavarian House, Odessa”, Pro Helvetia (Zurich), Italian Cultural Institute in Kiev, Polish Institute in Kiev and some others.

During 16 years the festival invited such bands as: Tango duo (Italy-Argentine), Amit Chatterjee Alliance (India-Czechia), Rao trio (Spain), Pago Libre (Zwitzerland-Austria), Philipp Nykrin Trio (Austria), Franca Masu trio (Italy), James Spolding Quintet (USA), Cie Trio d'en bas (France) , Plaistow (Switzerland), Al Foster Quartet (USA), Sienna Dahlen Trio (Denmark-Canada), Amine & Hamza Sextet (Poland-Sweden), Harri Stojka Quartet (Аustria), Eduardo Niebla «Guitar Duo» (Spain), “Dainius Pulauskas Sextet” (Lithuania), Fabien Mary Trio (France), Abraham Burton Quartet (USA), Drei im roten Kreis (Germany), Bernard Struber "Jazztett" (France), Yuko Okamoto Quartet (Japan), Rudi Berger (Austria) & Fabiano Chagas (Brazil), Artur Dutkiewicz Trio (Poland) and many others.

The festival programme in 2019 is in progress. The following projects have been included in the programme: Ivoire Trio (Germany), Mario Rom (Austria), Dock in Absolute (Luxembourg), Christos Rafalides & Petros Klampanis (Greece) and others.

In 2019 the Odessa JazzFest will be held on September 20-22. The concerts will take place in Odessa Philharmonic Theater (about 1000 seats) and in the City Garden (gala “open air” concert). The concerts continue about 4 hours. After the main programme in the theater will continue with club concerts and jam-sessions.
