POLIS Teatro Festival 2023

In 2023 POLIS Teatro Festival reaches its 6th edition, after five successful years for one of the few Italian theatre festivals investigating fundamental issues such as the defence of civil rights, climate change, and the role of art in society. Since 2018, the festival has become known on the national theatre scene, becoming an established appointment, with the merit of bringing to the theatre every year also citizens who do not go there for economic or social reasons and hundreds of young people under30.

Balkan focus 2023

POLIS 2023 will put at the centre of the festival an international focus on contemporary theatre from the Balkans, which will take place between 2 and 7 May 2023 in the most prestigious theatres of Ravenna (Teatro Alighieri, Teatro Rasi, Teatro Sociale, Artificerie Almagià).

For decades the performing arts of these countries have been known in Europe for the radicality of their themes and forms, but they are still very little known in Italy. This focus wishes to bring them to the attention of national critics, professionals (producers, artistic directors and programmers) and spectators, confirming the festival's distinctive artistic proposal of the highest relevance and enriching the program of POLIS 2023 with Italian premieres of masters and young artists linked to this geographical area.

A vibrant program, that follows the performances with moments of meeting with critics and scholars (also streamed), training activities and participatory projects, in a perspective of inclusion and active citizenship that has been the festival's soul since its first edition (Suspended Tickets, Under30 Tickets, Visionari Project, University Workshops, Parteci-Polis).
