  • Queer Zagreb Season: A Year-Round Celebration of Queer Art and Activism Queer Zagreb Season is an annual program that brings together a wide range of activities, events, and artistic content under one name. Organised by the Domino Association, it features 30 to 40 public events each year, including film screenings, literary programs, educational workshops, advocacy initiatives (particularly focused on LGBTIQ+ topics), as well as music and visual arts. Theatrical Performances as the Core of Queer Zagreb Since its inception, Queer Zagreb has centered around theater, dance, hybrid performances, and live art. These productions are presented either in thematic blocks throughout the year or in a more intensive festival format every May. Queer Zagreb Season 2025: Giving Voice to Queer Narratives The 2025 performance program focuses on dramatic texts and spoken-word performances, shifting from abstract expression to direct verbalisation of queer realities. A key highlight is Queer Zagreb’s collaboration with the National Queer Theater of New York through the "Criminal Queer" project. This initiative invites playwrights from countries where homosexuality is criminalized to submit scripts with queer themes. Selected works will be staged both in New York and Croatia. With over 60 countries still criminalizing homosexuality, and some imposing the death penalty, this project amplifies voices from regions where queer expression is silenced. The program will showcase artists and productions from Croatia, Serbia, Lebanon, France, the U.S., Argentina, Australia, and beyond. Spring 2025 Performances and Productions The Spring 2025 season includes: Four guest performances, including This Is Who I Am by Jeremy Goldstein, premiering in Johannesburg in April 2025, and three dance performances by Gaspard Louis (USA) exploring race relations in contemporary America. Three co-productions, including new production by Gonzalo Quintana (ARG), and Croatian artists Bruno Isaković and Nikolina Komljenović An artistic workshop for local artists, along with talks and discussions with featured performers. Year-round co-productions, including the revival of Queer Opera at the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka. Queer Zagreb: A Platform for Visibility and Change With a commitment to queer visibility, artistic innovation, and social justice, Queer Zagreb continues to challenge norms and amplify marginalized voices. The 2025 season promises to be a bold statement on freedom, identity, and resistance through the power of performance and storytelling.
