Splendor in the Grass is an open air cinema festival presented every year in August at the Park and Palace of Monserrate (Sintra). With programming by the film-maker João Mário Grilo, this festival brings to the the Park of Monserrate, itself a natural masterpiece, examples of the very best of the seventh art, showing some of the landmarks in the history of cinema. Sat on the grass, with nature as the backdrop, the films are projected onto a large scale screen installed alongside the lake.
