Stiftelsen Internationella Vadstena-Akademien
The International Vadstena Academy may be Sweden's smallest opera house, but when it comes to replenishing the opera repertory it is the country's greatest institution. So far the Vadstena Academy has commissioned and staged 40 new operas and nearly 50 undeservedly lost operas dug out of antique manuscripts. We give both the participants and the audience the chance to encounter operas that are not part of the mainstream repertoire.
Orpheus:
Orpheus or Die wunderbare Beständigkeit der Liebe by the great baroque master Georg Philip Telemann will be this summer's big event at Vadstena Castle. The Orpheus manuscript was discovered as late as in the 1990s and Vadstena-Akademien is indeed looking forward to stage this brilliant opera for the first time ever in the Nordic countries.
Love, jealousy, vicious death and violent revenge are mixed in this opera with amazing singing roles
and great contrasts.
