Stresa Festival 2024
Dear music lover, we will be happy and honoured to see you at Stresa Festival 2024!
This year the Festival is dedicated to the memory of Claudio Abbado, who left us ten years ago. Claudio was a true visionary – a rare Maestro always with an eye to the future. He traced out many paths, leaving them open for the music to come. Abbado managed to combine his figure as an artist with that of a socially commited person and one of the paths he indicated – that Stresa Festival intends to follow – takes us into the world of Nature, respect for our planet, convinced that Music too will have a role. Twenty-five years ago, well ahead of his time, Abbado made it a condition to return to conducting at La Scala in Milan that 90,000 trees should be planted. Today this is very topical. In 2019, a study published in Science demonstrated that ‘planting a thousand billion trees’ would at least to some extent solve the Earth’s climate problems. Well, in the last two centuries two thousand billion trees have been cut down, so planting a billion to replace them should not be complicated. Stresa Festival has decided to follow Abbado’s vision, and plant trees. Under this project, followed by Treeticket, every ticket sold for a concert will contribute to planting a tree. We want you to know about this initiative, because we’d like the whole Festival – organisation, public, artists – and everyone together, to draw on the amplifying power of Music to give voice and weight to Claudio Abbado’s message. We really look forward to meeting you all at Stresa and hope you will tell us about your personal initiatives to support the environment - what about taking the train to Stresa to start with? We’ll let everyone know you’ve done that!
