The Art Colony "Sicevo"

The Art Colony ''Sicevo'' is the oldest Serbian and Yugoslav colony and has the status of a public city event of international stature. It was founded in 1905 at the initiative of the famous painter Nadezda Petrovic with the wholehearted support of her colleagues, artists from Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia. The colony was restored in 1964 and has been held continuously every year since then. From 1970 Gallery of Contemporary Arts in Nis took over the responsibility for organizing the Colony and exhibiting works. It selects artists and arrange, in the first half of September, a stay of a maximum of 10 participants.Over the more than one hundred years of its existence, more than five hundred painters from Serbia and abroad have passed through the Sicevo Colony. The colony is open to artists of different generations and aesthetic orientations. In 2024, the Gallery of Contemporary Fine Arts Nis marked six decades of the colony's existence and work, which today inherits a valuable fund of 900 works by domestic and foreign artists.At the end of the year, in November, in the Pavilion in the Fortress, it realizes the exhibition of the Art Colony.
