Viva Cité

23 Jun 2023 - 25 Jun 2023
Sotteville-lès-Rouen, France

Viva Cité is a festival for art in public space happening each year since 1990 in Sotteville-lès-Rouen (in Normandie - North of France) during the last « full weekend » of June.

Viva Cité festival is the third biggest festival in France with Aurillac and Chalon dans la rue festivals.

Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th of June 2023 will be the dates for the 34th edition of Viva Cité.

Each year Viva Cité festival welcomes 100 000 spectators, 70 artistic companies (450 artists), 280 performances of shows, 350 professionals in the live art sector, and 50 students and volunteers within the festival organisation.

There is an official program with 20 companies and a fringe program with 50 companies. Professionals’ meeting is proposed during the morning.

Viva Cité is a festival that enables artists to present new work and creations. International projects are also presented linked to the In SITU European network since 2003 (the current project of In SITU is called (Un)common Spaces and runs from 2020 until 2024, it is founded by the Europe creative program).

Viva Cité also proposes several participatory artistic projects involving 200 to 300 amateurs in artistic practices and shows among and during the festival. An urban scenography is made by a visual artists’ collective with the participation of 700 volunteers for making and creating the scenographic objects that are set all throughout the city centre during the festival.

Viva Cité is free and dedicated to all audiences, especially families and audiences that are far away from art and culture activities because of economic, social or other barriers.
