MADEIRA MUSIC FESTIVAL
With a history of excellence dating back to 1959, the Madeira Music Festival will be revived in March 2024 by the Madeira Classical Orchestra, under the artistic direction of their leader, violinist Norberto Gomes. Up until its last appearance, the 36th in 2015, the festival had been promoted by the then Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs/Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture. This festival will have the seal of approval of the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture, continuing their responsibility for promoting it for over thirty years. In March 2024, for a glorious ten days we will present great artists, both national and international, together with outstanding performers at the start of their careers. Brilliant orchestral works from the past and present, as well as new compositions making their debut, will be a constant feature of our Festival. Major works of musical composition will be showcased together, and we will build on our existing musical heritage to enhance Madeira’s cultural presence. The reintroduction of the Madeira Music Festival as an art form will be successful, particularly as a powerful way of promoting Madeira as a cultural destination. From a visitor’s perspective it will add value to their experience, and will strongly enhance Madeira’s heritage and social development.
