12th Antivaro Festival: Theatre in the Periphery

The upcoming 12th Antivaro Festival returns with a dynamic program that celebrates artistic creation, cultural networking, and international collaboration. This year, the festival focuses on the central theme of "Theatre in the Periphery," exploring the vital role of regional artistic hubs and their connection to the broader cultural landscape.A major highlight of this edition is the 2nd Antivaro-Uoc Playwright Residency, organized in collaboration with the University of Crete. The festival is deeply honored to welcome the internationally acclaimed playwright Matéi Vișniec as the official guest of honor. His presence underscores the festival's commitment to fostering global theatrical dialogue and academic synergy. The festival’s diverse lineup features: Athens Guest Performances: A curated series of acclaimed theatrical productions traveling from the capital to the heart of Crete.Antivaro Theatre Productions: The festival's own resident company will present two major plays: Georges Feydeau’s classic farce Tailor for Ladies (Tailleur pour dames / Ράφτης Κυριών) and Matéi Vișniec’s thought-provoking work Panda (The Story of the Panda Bears Told by a Saxophonist Who Has a Girlfriend in Frankfurt).Regional Networking: A strong emphasis on building bridges, fostering co-productions, and creating sustainable networks among independent theatre spaces and cultural organizations across the island of Crete.Through these synergistic actions, the 12th Antivaro Festival continues to serve as a crucial platform for contemporary performing arts, blending local creativity with international expertise. Music Events: A series of vibrant musical evenings dedicated to exploring the widest possible range of musical genres and styles.
