20th Waterford International Film Festival

14 Nov 2026 - 21 Nov 2026
Waterford, Ireland

Founded in 2007 by filmmaker Stephen Byrne, the Waterford International Film Festival (WIFF) is one of Ireland’s leading celebrations of short-form storytelling. In November 2026, WIFF marks its 20th edition, celebrating two decades of bold, creative voices from Ireland and around the world. After showcasing features and documentaries in its first four years, WIFF shifted focus entirely to short films, supporting emerging talent—a decision that has defined the festival ever since. Over 1,500 films from across the globe have been presented, and an estimated 6,500 submissions have been received across all competitions.WIFF was the first festival in Ireland to launch a Short Screenplay Competition (2008), supporting over 400 writers as semi-finalists and finalists. The Photography Competition, now in its sixth year, has supported 90 artists. Each year, WIFF also presents at least a dozen awards across its competitions, celebrating excellence in film, writing, and photography.WIFF 2026 continues its hybrid format, with live events on 14–15 November at the House of Waterford and SETU’s Chapel building on College Street, followed by online screenings from 15–21 November.
