22nd International Festival of Educational and Social Theatre “Il Gerione”

The International Festival of Educational and Social Theatre “Il Gerione” was established in 2005, conceived by the Teatro dei Dioscuri Association and strongly supported by the Municipal Administration of Campagna. It is an annual event featuring performances produced by schools and associations working in the social sector. The festival also provides opportunities for discussion, cultural exchange and training on issues related to Educational and Social Theatre, bringing together theatre professionals, teachers and students.

The six organisations that signed the Memorandum of Understanding supporting the festival are: the Municipality of Campagna, the Teatro dei Dioscuri Cultural Association, the three educational institutions of Campagna (Istituto Comprensivo “Campagna Capoluogo”, Istituto Comprensivo “G. Palatucci” and Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore “T. Confalonieri”), and Pro Loco Città di Campagna.

“Il Gerione” has two main objectives:

• To promote the principles of Educational and Social Theatre through a range of activities, including performances, discussions with student juries, workshops and training courses.
• To establish itself as one of the major events in Campagna and the surrounding area, helping to enhance the region’s cultural, artistic and tourism profile at both national and international levels.

The festival offers a variety of activities, including:

• Performances created and presented by schools and associations.
• Active participation in theatre workshops involving theatre professionals, teachers and young people.
• Conferences, seminars, discussions and training sessions focusing on Educational and Social Theatre.
• Guided tours exploring the area's historical, anthropological, environmental and gastronomic heritage.
