International Education Film Festival / Festival international du film d'éducation - 22th
Every year since 2004, the International Education Film Festival ( Festival International du Film d'Education), organised by Ceméa, has offered a wide selection of films, including short, medium-length and feature films, fiction, animation and documentaries. The films presented, and the perspectives of their directors, address major issues relating to education, childhood and youth, cultural or intergenerational transmission, and the fight against all forms of discrimination, through stories and life experiences of children, young people and adults.
These fiction films, documentaries and animated films, of all lengths, are aimed at a very wide audience, including parents, educators, association leaders, politicians, local authority representatives and all citizens. The festival also offers young people numerous educational and cultural opportunities to discover and create images and stories. Several round tables and numerous discussions between directors and audiences are organised during the festival. The festival thus represents a remarkable space for the confrontation of ideas, different perspectives and exchanges. It is a cultural place for building connections between all citizens and for innovation among all those involved in education. It is also a space for "popular education", combining the "watching" of films with the "speaking" of prominent figures, making it possible to continue exploring questions relating to education.
Through this festival, Ceméa promotes the transmission of a living heritage of powerful European and international works, in Normandy, throughout mainland France and its overseas territories, in Europe and beyond, through "Les Échos du Festival", decentralised editions that take place throughout the year.
The 22nd edition is currently being finalised. Some elements of the programme can already be presented:
- Among the 10 fiction feature films, the Brazilian film Feito Pipa (Like a Kite) will be our opening film, presented as a French premiere.
"Gugu is a boy of almost 12, a dreamer with a passion for football. After his mother's death, he is raised with freedom and tenderness by his grandmother Dilma, without worrying about the judgement of the town's inhabitants, with whom he has a very warm relationship. The boy's relationship with his father, Batista, is difficult, marked by absences, expectations and unspoken feelings. But Dilma grows weaker and begins to lose her memory. Afraid of losing his grandmother, who is his only point of reference, Gugu does everything he can to protect her and tries to hide from those around him that her condition is worsening, willing to do anything to avoid having to live with his father."
- The festival's closing screening, on Friday 4 December, following the awards ceremony, will feature a beautiful African film, Congo Boy.
"Bangui. Robert is 17 years old and dreams of pursuing a career in music. But he is not like other Central Africans. He is a Congolese refugee. When his parents are arrested, he must take care of his four younger brothers and sisters on his own. He then juggles odd jobs and studying for his baccalaureate exams, while avoiding the militias that spread terror throughout the city. One day, he learns that a music competition is being organised. Winning becomes his only hope."
