47.ed. Warsaw Theatre Meetings
The 47th edition of the Warsaw Theatre Meetings (Warszawskie Spotkania Teatralne), one of Poland’s most important festivals of contemporary theatre, will take place under the theme TERRITORIES. Each year, the festival brings to Warsaw a curated selection of significant productions, artistic voices and emerging tendencies from across Poland, offering audiences and international professionals a concentrated insight into the country’s performing arts landscape. The programme embraces a broad range of theatrical languages, from contemporary drama and new interpretations of canonical texts to documentary, interdisciplinary and performative practices.
The 47th edition will focus on territories understood in a broad geographical sense: borders, regions, centres and peripheries, places of belonging, migration and displacement, as well as the divisions that shape communities and identities. Geography will be explored not merely as a backdrop, but as a social, political and cultural force that influences how stories are created, whose perspectives become visible and how local experiences resonate beyond their immediate context. Through performances rooted in specific places, histories and communities, the festival will examine the tensions between the local and the global, between centre and periphery, and between established borders and territories that are constantly being redefined. TERRITORIES will provide a framework for looking at contemporary theatre as a space where geographical divisions can be questioned, negotiated and reimagined. For international curators, programmers and theatre professionals, the Warsaw Theatre Meetings offer an opportunity to encounter some of the most relevant voices in Polish theatre and to trace how local artistic practices connect with wider European and global conversations. Accompanying discussions and festival events create additional space for exchange between artists, audiences and professionals.
The Warsaw Theatre Meetings take place at Teatr Dramatyczny im. Gustawa Holoubka, which actively works to make its programme accessible to people with different access needs. The venue provides facilities for wheelchair users and visitors with reduced mobility, including lifts, designated wheelchair spaces, an accessible toilet and accessible parking. Assistance and guide dogs are welcome.
The theatre also provides accessibility solutions for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, including an induction loop and, for selected events, Polish Sign Language interpretation. Selected performances may also include additional accessibility measures and are clearly marked in the theatre’s programme. Accessibility information is communicated to audiences in advance so that visitors can choose performances according to their individual needs.
