60. Zagreb International Folklore Festival

15 Jul 2026 - 19 Jul 2026
Zagreb, Croatia

The 60th anniversary of the International Folklore Festival once again encourages reflection on the role and significance of this festival in the Croatian cultural and national space in the international context. The basis for these reflections will be the selection of groups that performed at the first festival in 1966, and that have performed frequently in those six decades thanks to the awareness of communities that are the bearers of folklore traditions, many of which have since been declared intangible cultural heritage. The festival is a place for promoting traditional culture and values, so the anniversary will also be an opportunity to recapitulate the results achieved, not only in those 60 years but also significantly more, if we take into account that this festival is the successor to the Peasant Unity festival from the period between the two world wars. In addition to the main, festival part of the program in July, special events, concerts and round tables – panel discussions – would be organized during the spring, which would address the topic of preserving traditional heritage and its resilience, resilience, renewal and adaptation in the context of stage presentation and the role of the festival in general. Programs are planned that would present the current state and possibilities that the presentation of cultural heritage can offer in different contexts through public discussions or concerts.
