A!KO TANZ FEST (A!KO)

A!KO TANZ FEST was founded in 2022 to commemorate the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Austria and Korea. Based in Linz, the festival serves as an international platform dedicated to contemporary dance, artistic collaboration, and cultural dialogue between Europe and Asia.The festival’s mission is to present carefully curated international dance works, celebrate the transformative power of movement, and offer audiences a space for connection, dignity, and joy through dance. A!KO believes that dance transcends language, borders, and backgrounds, creating shared experiences that nurture empathy and unity.Beyond its artistic presentations, A!KO actively supports emerging dance artists by providing opportunities to expand their visibility and reach on the global stage. The festival aims to empower artists through residencies, workshops, and mentorship, helping them develop their artistic language and connect with international networks. It also fosters inclusive dance experiences that bring together diverse communities, embracing accessibility and equality as core values.Rooted in the Linz dance community, A!KO acts as a dynamic bridge for international exchange and collaboration. Each year, it continues to grow through partnerships with artists, festivals, and institutions around the world. The festival presents a wide range of dance programs, including performances, creative labs, public workshops, and interdisciplinary projects that merge dance with music, visual arts, and technology. These initiatives encourage creative dialogue and foster new forms of artistic expression that go beyond traditional boundaries.Since its foundation, A!KO has maintained a strong commitment to connecting Austria and Korea through dance. The festival’s programming reflects both the local vibrancy of the Linz dance scene and the evolving dynamics of contemporary dance in Asia. By presenting works from both established and emerging artists, A!KO contributes to a diverse and inclusive artistic ecosystem that bridges cultures and generations.A!KO’s long-term vision is to expand into a global community of artists and audiences who share a passion for movement and creative exploration. From 2025 onwards, the festival will extend its collaborations internationally, strengthening ties with festivals, institutions, and creative platforms across Europe and Asia. Through this expansion, A!KO aims to create sustainable pathways for intercultural exchange and mutual inspiration.The festival is supported by Tanzhafen Festival, Redsapata Kulturinitiative, and Sonnenstein LOFT, and operates in close partnership with CID Vienna Section, Rosenberg Dance Festival, and ARS Electronica Festival. Together with these partners, A!KO continues to shape an environment where dance serves as a language of connection, innovation, and shared humanity.
